CNN Ed Henry now reports President Obama has had a series of secret meetings to get more intelligence on Bin Laden. On Friday morning, President gave the order to capture Bin Laden. It took months for the U.S. to piece together all the intelligence and enable the U.S. to zero in on the mansion. The President was personally deeply involved for the past months.
CNN Gloria Borgon now reports this mansion was built in 2005, had 12x18 foot walls, valued at $1 million but had no internet or telephone services. Intelligence officials had been keeping an eye on the compound noting residents burned their trash instead of putting it out on the street. More people were living at the compound.
Abbottobad is an affluent area about 80 kilometers from Islamabad.
Excited crowds outside the White House cheering, singing, shouting.
CNN Ed Henry reporting a U.S. helicopter crashed out of mechanical failure and was destroyed by the U.S. military to prevent theft of intelligence. One woman was killed in the compound because she was used by one of the men in the compound as a human shield.
CNN David Gergen compares the moment to the fall of the Berlin wall. Comments across the internet are celebratory. This is a huge milestone for the military, CIA and the President's national security team that has been meeting secretly for 6 weeks.
